Tampa, Florida: In November of last year a new veteran’s hockey program was established to serve the greater Tampa area, the Tampa Warriors. The Tampa Warriors are a partner program of the USA Warriors Hockey program that plays out of the Washington D.C. area. The USA Warriors has a long tradition of helping qualified veterans on and off the ice as well as raising funds for various charities.
The Tampa Warriors are made up of veterans who have sustained a combat injury or have received a disability rating from the Veteran’s Administration. The organization is working to develop regular clinics for qualified veterans who have never been on the ice before. The mission is to provide those veterans an opportunity to have a few hours a month with those who they share similar stories. The Warriors will also look for opportunities for their members to give back to the community, a way for their membership to continue to serve the country they have already admirably served. The program is building much more than a hockey team; they are building a community.
You can find the Tampa Warriors on the ice Sunday night at 7:30pm at Xtra Ice in Tampa Bay, Florida. Their first clinic will be held mid-March of this year.
